I'd like to reserve a vampire, Archetype would be Tart with a Heart :D
EDIT: And the position...I would like Second in command.

Race- Human
Role- Second in Command
archetype- Legacy Hero
Since the whole reason I picked roleplaying back up was to see how my writing skills have improved, I think this would be perfect for me.

(Former?) AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note accessories maker: Nothing to see here!

Samsung Galaxy Note

The accessorires manufacturer that prematurely confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy Note is coming to AT&T has since retracted said leak. According to a new release from Anymode, the previous statement that it was "recently named [an] OEM vendor for many of [Samsung's] Galaxy Note accessories" was released in error and "the information was not provided by Anymode, AT&T or Samsung, nor did Anymode, AT&T or Samsung approve it."

Here's the full statement:

RETRACTION OF EARLIER CES ANNOUNCEMENT
JANUARY 6, 2012 --The January 5, 2012 CES Media Alert titled "Anymode Introduces First Accessories for Samsung Galaxy Note" contained inaccurate information pertaining to AT&T and the release of the Samsung Galaxy Note.

The information was not provided by Anymode, AT&T or Samsung , nor did Anymode, AT&T or Samsung approve it.

The issuing party apologizes for the publishing of the inaccurate information and any inconvenience it may have caused.

Interesting, indeed. Is there a rogue PR rep running the streets, spilling beans by day and fighting crime by night? Has anybody checked Wikileaks latety?

And does this retraction mean we won't see an AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note? Oh, we're pretty sure it's out there. Does that mean we won't be seeing any Anymode accessories? Confidence is high. Repeat: Confidence is high.

Maternal liver grafts more tolerable for children with rare disease

ScienceDaily (Jan. 3, 2012) ? Children with a rare, life-threatening disease that is the most common cause of neonatal liver failure -- biliary atresia -- better tolerate liver transplants from their mothers than from their fathers, according to a UCSF-led study.

In the study, researchers reviewed all pediatric liver transplants nationwide from 1996 to 2010, and compared the outcomes for patients who received liver grafts from their mothers with those for patients who received livers from their fathers.

Researchers believe the improved outcomes for children receiving a maternal liver graft may be due to higher levels of maternal cells in the patients' livers. The presence of these cells may establish tolerance to maternal antigens -- substances that induce an immune response -- and therefore greater acceptance of maternal organs in these biliary atresia patients.

"This result is exciting because it supports the concept that trafficking of cells between the mother and the fetus has functional significance long after the pregnancy is over," said senior author Tippi MacKenzie, MD, assistant professor of pediatric surgery at UCSF and a fetal surgeon at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. "This is a topic we are actively studying both in animal models and in patients who have fetal surgery. Practically speaking, this study may allow us to counsel families in which both the mother and father are willing and able to be a donor."

The researchers found that patients with biliary atresia who received a transplanted maternal portion of liver had a failure rate of 3.7 percent, compared to the failure rate of 10.5 percent observed in recipients of paternal livers. In children who had liver transplantation for other diseases, there were no differences in the transplant outcome between maternal or paternal grafts.

The results will be published in the January issue of the American Journal of Transplantation and can be found online.

Biliary atresia, which affects one in 10,000 newborn infants, occurs when the common bile duct between the liver and the small intestine is blocked or absent. While early surgical intervention to treat biliary atresia is critical to prevent irreversible liver damage, once the liver fails, a liver transplant is required.

"We were testing the idea that if cells from the mother travel into the fetus during pregnancy and are involved in maternal-fetal tolerance, this phenomenon may have a long-lasting effect for transplantation tolerance when the mother donates an organ to the child," MacKenzie said.

Co-authors of the study are Amar Nijagal, MD, Shannon Fleck, BS, Nancy Hills, PhD, Sandy Feng, Md, PhD, Qizhi Tang, PhD, Sang-Mo Kang, MD, and Phil Rosenthal, MD, all of UCSF. It was funded by the Irene Perstein Award and a grant from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine.

Apple & Google Dominate Smartphone Market During 2011

Posted on January 2, 2012 10:50 AM by Rob Williams

We've been talking about smartphone trends quite a bit lately, but with 2011 behind us, there's no better time to take a look at the overall growth (or losses) experienced by some companies through the year. It's of little surprise that both Apple and Google dominated the share, but it comes at the expense of RIM and Microsoft. Palm? Non-existent, as far as comScore is concerned.

Over the course of the past 18 months, Apple's marketshare increase was 4.5% while Google's was a mind-blowing 27.3% - that's more than one-fourth of the entire market captured in a mere 18 months. While Apple's 4.5% seems pale in comparison, its marketshare has already remained impressive for some time, so growth has naturally slowed. Combined, Apple and Google command 75.6% of the smartphone market.

During the same period, RIM has experienced a constant decline, starting off with a 37.6% share but since dropping down to 19.7%. Ouch. Likewise, Microsoft's already paltry 10.8% share dropped to 5.7%.

Given these numbers, 2012 should be an interesting year for the smartphone market because it's hard to predict where things can go from here. Will Android continue to dominate while taking share away from Apple? Will Microsoft finally strike back and see its first increase in at least 18 months? Will we ever see a webOS phone added to the list? We'll have answers to all of these questions in roughly 365 days!

Ethiopian, Somali troops take key city

Ethiopian troops and Somali government forces have seized control of a key Somali city after battling Islamist rebels on the outskirts, leaving at least 18 dead, sources said.

The city, Beledweyne, lies some 30 kilometres from the Ethiopian border in the Hiran region of central Somalia.

"The fighting started this morning after our forces supported by the Ethiopian military attacked the enemy's positions on the outskirts of Beledweyne," Bare Abdulahi, a Somali government security official, said on Saturday from the scene.

"They lost in the battle and we have penetrated into their barracks killing nearly 20 of their fighters before taking control of the city. The Somali government forces alone entered the city and they are securing it now," he added.

"We have counted around 18 dead bodies, most of them the combatants, some of them have died outside the city and others are lying in the streets of Beledweyne," Mohamed Moalim Osmail, an elder in the city, confirmed to AFP.

"I saw some Somali government troops accompanied by armed trucks belonging to the Ethiopian forces, they have entered the city and the fighting has stopped now", Abdirahman Isa, another witness, said.

The al-Qaeda-linked Shabab rebel movement denied having been defeated in the city.

"The enemy tried to destroy the frontline barracks of the mujahideen fighters but they lost in the battle, we killed many of them and the mujahideen fighters have retreated back from some positions in order to reorganise their strategy", Abu Musab told reporters in Mogadishu.

Residents said that several hundred Ethiopian troops on November 19 crossed into Hiran and another region of central Somalia Galgudud, but Addis Ababa, which invaded Somalia in 2006 with US backing, dismissed the reports as "absolutely not true".

The 2006 invasion sparked a bloody uprising and Ethiopia's troops pulled out three years later after failing to restore order in its lawless neighbour, which has lacked a functioning government for two decades.

Hardline Shabab insurgents control much of southern Somalia, but are also battling both the Western-backed government in Mogadishu and Kenyan troops in the far south, who crossed the border in mid-October to attack rebel strongholds.

Kenya on Saturday said it would circulate photographs of 15 people the Kenyan police say can provide information on the Shabab.

Police spokesman Eric Kiraithe told journalists the 15 - nine Kenyans, two Asians and four Somalis - are believed to have left the Somali port of Kismayo recently and said "some are believed to be in Kenya already .. with the intent of engaging in criminal activities".

Most of the Kenyans in the group are believed to have resided in Nairobi and in the Kenyan coastal resort of Mombasa before leaving for Somalia around one year ago.
