Designs for a Relaxing Bathroom Home Improvement Support

Increasingly homeowners are seeing their bathrooms as retreats from the stresses of everyday life and are outfitting them to be luxurious and spa-like. The idea that you can relax in your master bathroom is very appealing. However, what creates a relaxing ambiance varies from person to person. While one homeowner might like a zen-like, uncluttered d?cor, another might prefer something ornate and old-fashioned. Many, but not all, relaxing bathrooms are high-end with expensive materials and sophisticated features. However, relaxing bathrooms often do share some common elements.

Incorporate a View:? Designs for a relaxing bath start with the view. Nothing is more appealing than a beautiful view, particularly if you can enjoy it while soaking in the bathtub. Not every bathroom will have access to a lake view or rolling surf, but you can consider planting some tress or flowering bushes outside the bathroom.

The bathroom below takes full advantage of the glorious natural setting, providing an unobscured view. The design also brings the outside indoors with a small fountain up against the windows which is adorned with lily pads. The wood floor and the rocks help to add to the outdoorsy effect. The overall result is stunning.

Give the Illusion of Space:? There is something inherently relaxing about having plenty of space to move around in ? particularly in a bathroom. So often bathrooms are crowded, particularly in older houses. And they?re often littered with an array of toiletries. For this reason, designs for a relaxing bathroom often start with lots of floor space; spacious bathrooms feel particularly luxurious.? If you?re stuck with a small space, there are a number of tricks to make a bathroom feel bigger: add windows and bring in more natural light or paint the walls a light color. Careful use of mirrors and artificial lighting can ?expand? a room. Be sure to include sufficient storage for toiletries, towels, etc., so that these things won?t clutter up your counters. Don?t buy fixtures (particularly a bathtub) that?s too large for the space.

The bathroom Case Design remodeled below does a great job of conveying a sense of space. Although it includes both a tub and an extra-large shower, it doesn?t feel crowded or small. The clean lines of the fixtures contributed to the uncluttered atmosphere, while the neutral gray tile makes it feel calm and relaxing. The glass shower door allows you to see to the back wall of the shower, making the room feel bigger and giving the illusion that the overly large shower consumes less floor space than it actually does. Think about your own bathroom and how you could give it a spacious feeling!

Sitting Areas in the Bathroom:? Often bathrooms don?t have anywhere comfortable to sit, and this contributes to the sense that the bathroom is not a place to linger or relax. But many of today?s homeowners are including sitting areas as part of their relaxing bath designs.? Comfortable seating contributes to a spa-like environment and suggests that the bathroom is a place to savor and unwind from the stress of the day. Seats also provide a place to put on lotion and perform other tasks that get you ready for your day. How many times have you cringed as your significant other jiggles the bed while putting on socks for an early meeting?

Bathroom seating can take many forms: it might be a bench or overstuffed chair or a plain ledge. I?ve even seen bathrooms with chaise lounges that suggest a poolside environment. Whatever form it takes, make sure that your seating can stand up to the repeated humidity you encounter in a bathroom.

I really like this bath our company designed. The seating area in the bathroom below is relatively simple, but the extra pillows make it inviting and tempt you to sit while enjoying the room. The room?s overall d?cor is more ornate and old-fashioned than some of the sleek, modernistic designs that some homeowners prefer. However, I find that this kind of d?cor conveys a luxurious ambiance that suggests you will be pampered and cared for ? like at a high-end resort or hotel. And there?s nothing more relaxing than pampering!

Lighting Serves Multiple Purposes:? Lighting is an essential element in creating a relaxing ambiance in your bathroom. You don?t want anything that is too harsh or glaring, but it is vital to have sufficient task lighting near the mirrors so that occupants can get ready in the morning.? You can consider different levels of lighting in different parts of the room, or you can put the lights on a dimmer. That way when you?re in the mood for a relaxing evening bath, you can create the right atmosphere. It?s important that the room not appear too dark, however; include sufficient natural and artificial light so that your bathroom won?t feel small and cramped.

I love the lighting effects in the bathroom below. There are lights inside the tub, which can look lovely when filtered through the water. The lights, combined with the tub?s color, create an almost otherworldly glow. The smaller tea lights arranged around the rim of the tub have an entirely different effect, creating a soft, romantic ambiance and a warm, yellow light which reflects nicely off the tiles.

Add a Fireplace to Your Bathroom:? Today?s gas fireplace technology makes it easy to put a fireplace just about anywhere you might want one. Increasingly, homeowners want one in the bathroom. Watching a fire burn has a hypnotic quality and the fireplace provides warmth, which is inherently cozy and relaxing. That?s why everyone wants to gather around the fireplace in the living room! Since gas fireplaces can be two-sided, some master bedroom suites feature one side of the fireplace in the bedroom and one in the bathroom.

A fireplace is an integral part of many relaxing bathroom designs, like the one below. Today?s bathrooms often put the fireplace near the bathtub, combining water and fire, two natural (and opposing) elements, but also bringing together two inherently relaxing activities. I love how the fireplace and the bathtub complement each other in the design below. The room also offers a nice, inherently relaxing view and simple, uncluttered d?cor with natural materials that help bring the outdoors inside.
