Gadsden City High School released a statement Friday afternoon saying head football coach Joe Billingsley has resigned.
The statement said Billingsley will ?assume other duties in the Gadsden City School System.? Billingsley will maintain his duty as Assistant Athletic Director for the school system ?while additional responsibilities will be assigned at a later date.?
The full press release, sent via email, is as follows:
?Joe Billingsley, Head Football Coach at Gadsden City High School since 2006, steps down as Head Coach to assume other duties in the Gadsden City School System. Billingsley currently serves as Assistant Athletic Director for the school system. He will maintain that duty while additional responsibilities will be assigned at a later date. Billingsley would like to express his appreciation to Dr. Ed Miller, Superintendent, and Principal Keith Blackwell, for the opportunity to coach at Gadsden City High School. He would also like to thank the parents and coaches he has worked with the last seven years. Billingsley further states that Gadsden City High School is a great place to work, and that it has been a very rewarding experience.?
Billingsley has been the head football coach for the Titans since the school was formed. He holds a 58-26 record in seven seasons with Gadsden City and made the playoffs each year. Before becoming the head coach for the Titans, Billingsley spent four years as the head coach for Gadsden High. He also was the head coach at Gordo from 1997 until 2001, winning the Class 2A state championship in 2001.
