The 1970s were a time of creative ferment in Japan?the postwar baby boom generation was flexing its imagination and freeing itself from the shackles of tradition. Framed by the antiwar student demonstrations and 1970 Osaka Expo, this exhibition looks back on the spirit of the times through art, graphic design, architecture, photography, theatrical performances, music and manga. While you?re at the Saitama museum, don?t miss its first-rate collection of pieces by contemporary art doyenne Yayoi Kusama.
